Evgen Pharma
Evgen is a clinical stage drug development company focussed on the development of sulforaphane-based compounds, a new class of pharmaceuticals which are synthesised in a proprietary, well-tolerated, stable formulation.
There is a comprehensive intellectual property package over this technology, covering novel compositions and manufacturing methods.
Evgen exploits sulforaphane’s activity in three distinct disease-relevant cellular pathways; inhibition of pSTAT3, of importance in controlling cancer metastases, up-regulation of Nrf2, a therapeutic target associated with a broad range of diseases which are characterised by excessive oxidative stress, and inflammation and inhibition of SHP2, a target that has relevance in a number of solid tumours and haematological cancers.

MGB Biopharma
MGB Biopharma is a private company based in Glasgow, Scotland and is backed by a syndicate of Scotland’s leading angel investor groups together with Scottish Enterprise. Antimicrobial drug resistance is recognised as a global public health concern with an urgent need for new antibacterial drug classes that are more effective than existing treatments. MGB is developing the first truly novel class of anti-infectives in over a decade that has the potential to treat infections of a number of the most important susceptible and resistant pathogens.
Our lead compound has shown strong bactericidal activity with quick onset of action against many strains of Gram-positive bacteria. It has completed pre-clinical development and progress into our phase 1 clinical study for the treatment of Clostridium difficile have been endorsed by the MHRA. Optimisation of a new formulation for intravenous administration and treatment of systemic Gram-positive infection is ongoing.
MGB has acquired exclusive rights to the proprietary minor groove binder platform, developed at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. This platform provides an opportunity to develop additional compounds with the potential to treat Gram-negative, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. MGB continues to work closely with Strathclyde University to develop the pipeline and is currently seeking partners to help maximise the value-creating opportunities from its broad platform.

Oppilotech
Oppilotech develops first-in-class drugs. We believe that target selection is the most important decision we make in drug discovery – a selective high-quality molecule will never become a drug if it is modulating the wrong target. Oppilotech have developed a high-resolution platform based on systems biology and machine learning to model biological processes in cells. The platform is utilized to identify first-in-class drug targets and to develop novel modes of action drugs modulating the identified targets. We undertake both the target selection and develop the drugs against the identified target. We initially focused our modelling efforts on E.coli identifying several first-in-class antibacterial drug targets and generated active chemical matter against them. The company intends to develop these programmes towards the clinic. We are now expanding into pathways in human cells allowing us to address a wider range of diseases including cancer (e.g. DNA Damage Response) and inflammation.

Pneumagen
Pneumagen is using its platform technology, GlycoTarge™, to develop glycan targeted carbohydrate binding modules (CBMs) as a new universal therapeutic modality for the treatment of respiratory tract infections (RTIs) and cancer.
Pneumagen’s lead product, Neumifil™, is a first-in-class mCBM40 being developed for the universal treatment of Influenza Virus (IFV) and Respiratory Synctial Virus (RSV) infections. When administered intranasally in preclinical models, Neumifil™ has demonstrated prevention, treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis of IFV infection with no observed toxicity. Pneumagen’s mCBM, in development for cancer, isknown as Neumonco™. In vitro data have demonstrated that mCBMs target and enter cancer cells, reducing cell proliferation, migration, metabolism and differentiation.
Founded in 2016, the Company is a spin-out from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and has access to world-class scientific expertise and capabilities in glycobiology. Please visit www.pneumagen.com for more information.
